It’s time for another round of testing: iOS 14.5 beta and iPadOS 14.5 beta are now available for developers to download. As soon as the public beta is available (see below) you can also start as a public beta tester. We expect a few new features and of course the necessary bug fixes and optimizations.
Most recent iOS 14.5 Beta
iOS 14.5 Beta 1
January 27, 2021 – Apple has released the first beta of iOS 14.5. As soon as we know what’s new, we will update this article and publish a separate overview of the iOS 14.5 functions.
Improvements iOS 14.5
One of the improvements in iOS 14.5 is the support for AirPlay in Apple Fitness +. This allows you to send the workout instructions via AirPlay 2 to a suitable television. This is especially helpful for users who don’t have an Apple TV. The measurements such as your activity rings and your calories burned do not appear when using AirPlay.
We also expect the anti-ad tracking function, as announced by Apple.
Recent Meest iPadOS 14.5 Beta
iPadOS 14.5 Beta 1
January 27, 2021 – Apple has released the first beta of iPadOS 14.5. Its features will be roughly identical to iOS 14.5, which we discuss above.
Download iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 beta for developers
Developers can download the beta from Apple’s developer website. There you will find the correct beta profile to install on your iPhone. There are usually two ways to install the update. You can download the correct beta profile and the beta over-the-air install or switch immediately if you already have the profile. Another way is through the so-called Restore Image and then transfer it to your iPhone via the Finder on Mac or iTunes on Windows.
When will the public beta be released?
As soon as the public betas of iOS 14.5 and iPadOS 14.5 are available, we will report it in this article. Installing the public beta of iOS does require that you have the correct beta profile and are signed up for Apple’s beta program.
Pay attention: these betas are only intended for developers and public testers and are not suitable for use on devices that you need on a daily basis.

Over iOS 14.5
iOS 14.5 is already the fifth additional update for the iPhone and iPod touch from iOS 14. Usually such interim updates bring a number of new functions. For example, Apple plans to introduce anti-ad tracking in early 2021, so we may be able to expect that in iOS 14.5. If you want to know more about what’s new in iOS 14, read our overview of the most important functions.
About testing betas
You can often run into problems when testing betas. First of all, not all functions are usually available immediately, but are added and expanded during the test period. You can also suffer from crashes or some apps may not work properly yet. So keep this in mind if you decide to test an iOS update. It is therefore not recommended to install a beta on a device that you use every day, because there can still be many problems in the beta. You can read more about problems caused by the iOS 14 betas in our separate article.
